Tuesday the 4th February, 2014 saw a totally different phase of workshops in Ghana. Hosted by Hopeline Institute in association with Partners worldwide, Pig farmers in Ghana participatedin a workshop with a refined definition and meaning to the growing pork industry.
The workshop, held at the Hopeline Training Centre was poised to educate pig farmers and other stakeholders on the need to appreciate pig rearing as a full time business and not for the basic quest of money and subsistence.
The workshop themed “ BUILDING A ROBUST  VALUE CHAIN FOR THE PORK INDUSTRY” took  off at 10:00am and ended at 2:00pm with top  notch resource persons invited to speak on the  various phases of the pork industry.
Malcom Dekryger president of Belstra Milling and  Legacy farms in a presentation at the workshop  asserted that "if you take good care of the animal  health, animal feed and the animal welfare the  animals are able to express their genetic potentials  in a marvelous way.”
The Executive Director of Hopeline Institute, Mrs.  Fanny Atta-Peters said in an interview that,   theworkshop would help discuss and address  some of the challenges in the Pig Industry for improvement. “It was therefore aimed at empowering participants with skills and knowledge in areas like piggery management, feed, genetics, health etc.”she added.
In all, the workshop attracted pig farmers from the Central, Eastern and Greater  Accra Region of Ghana, and other stakeholders in the Pork Industry value chain. Also in attendance were personel fromMaridav Animal Nutrition, JFAMCOabattoir and the Ministry of Agriculture.
